Borough Burblings 30 November

Since the last posting two complete rounds have been completed and our scratchy season continues. Most of our teams won one match and lost the other. The Weekend Ones and the Mid-week sixes lost both of their matches.

The Mid-week season is at the half way mark and the ladder positions of our teams are: Division 1 4th, Division 3 5th, Division 6 8th. The Mid-week Ones have been competitive against the teams they lost to without getting hammered. The Threes are starting to find some form and are slowly climbing the ladder. The Sixers have been improving very gradually. They seem to be enjoying themselves despite the results and that is all that matters. It is still just a game.

The weekend season is approaching the half way mark. The Eaglehawk ladder positions are: Premier 6th, Div 1 8th, Div 3 7th and Div 6 4th. The Premiers have been competitive throughout and are still in touch with the top four. The Ones have battled from Round 1 with some close losses and some not so close. This time last year the Ones (then called Div 2) were on the bottom but had started to win games and of course went on to win the pennant. This year we are starting to lose touch with fourth spot on the ladder. The Three’s have also had a tough season but should be able to keep in touch with the top four. The Sixers have actually dropped to fourth spot but their season has been positive so far.

This week, On Saturday, the Premiers are at home to East. Also at home are the Sixers who play Kangaroo Flat. The Ones travel to East where a win is essential for their season. The Three’s are off up the highway to Serpentine where they can expect a great welcome. It is always an enjoyable day when you play at the small out of town clubs.

On Monday, the second half of the season starts with the Ones travelling to Bendigo. The Threes are at home to Marong and the Sixers host Strath.

A big thank you to all of the members who helped out over two days spreading sand over the Read green for its lasering. It had to be two days because of all of the rain that fell on Friday afternoon and evening. The greens were duck ponds again.

We have two members recovering from falls; Joan Costello and John MacDonald. Joan’s was quite serious and involved a hospital visit. We hope that they recover quickly so that they can get out onto the green again.

I note that a past member in Jeff (Jack) Barber passed away this month. He was only a member for a short time, I think he was more interested in croquet. Our sympathies are with Jeff’s family.
