Borough Burblings 27 February

Our pennant season is now well and truly over with the defeat of the weekend Sixers last Saturday. On a beautiful day with a green that was running well, they were unable to match it with Golden Square losing by 25 shots.

Square got off to a great start and was leading well in all rinks. Bill Boyle’s rink started to come back, but at the break we were down 20/54. Bill’s rink continued their recovery and eventually won 26/17. As a footnote, Bill had a great season skipping his team to 12 wins out of 15 games played. Carol Baker’s rink was down at one stage 1/16, they then recovered to lose by just two shots 21/23 with Col Pavletich going out in style trailing the kitty into the ditch with his last bowl. Unfortunately Julie Daniel’s rink was outplayed and outclassed. Her opposition was easily good enough to play several rungs higher in the different pennant grades.

With the huge number of changes that happened through the year with unavailable people higher up and illness, I think that the Sixers did a great job just making the four. None of this mattered to side captain Bill though, he sacked the coach before the game had even finished and then proceeded to drown his sorrows by emptying a barrel of Great Northern…

A big happy birthday this week to Max Volk who has his 22nd birthday. He must have had a very hard life, because he doesn’t look a day under 87. These days don’t come along that often so we hope that you have a great day.

In other happenings at the club, Kenny R introduced himself to a new (hopefully very temporary) member in Mr E B Snake. His friends call him Brown, but I would think others would call him something else; sh—–t! springs to mind. The new member is in the deadly category, and if Bowls Victoria want us to pay an affiliation fee, they can come up and collect it personally.

The bottom (Read) green is not far off being ready to play on. It was timed last week at 13.3 seconds which is not too bad for a green coming out of major renovations.

We are taking entries for the Trevor O’Shea Triples, so if you would like to enter, please contact the club.
