Borough Burblings 8 December

Our disappointing pennant season continues. The only team to win were the weekend Sixers with a four shot (2 rinks up) win. They are sitting in third spot on the ladder. This win was particularly notable as we had another week with over 10 people unavailable. The last team to be picked is always going the players “leftover” and the fill-ins. This is by no means any comment on the players ability as everybody tries their best when they step onto the mat. It was a great win by the team.

The weekend Premiers and the Ones both lost by 9 shots with only one rink up. In general the performances in both competitions have been okay with, usually, one rink having a poor day which means that the others have to have a very good day to cover them.

There is one encouraging performance that I would like to highlight. The Mid-week Sixers team skippered by Julie Daniel have won 4 of their 8 games. According to Bowlslink, Julie is sitting 3rd on the skippers ladder. This is a team that changes weekly and has some very inexperienced bowlers in it. Julie herself is only a relative novice at the game. Well done.

Another “highlight” from Monday’s games was the bowl by Ray “Blocker” Rowe. It barely made the minimum legal length of 14 metres and was looking rather lonely in the middle of the green. Ray knew what he was doing though, as the the last bowl sent down by Bendigo Skip, Luke Hoskin, to try and win that game never looked like missing the short bowl. Or at least, that is what Ray will tell you….

At home this Saturday the Ones play Marong and the Threes play Castlemaine. The Premiers are off to to Inglewood to enjoy their hospitality and the Sixers are at Marong. On Monday, in the final game before Christmas, the Ones host South. The Threes are at Woodbury and the Sixers are off to South.

Next Saturday (16 December) there will be a Christmas BBQ dinner after pennant. The Christmas Raffle will also be drawn that night. There is a list on the noticeboard at the club for the dinner. Please do not forget to get your raffle books back to club prior to the night.
