Borough Burblings 20 December 2023

Congratulations must go to Kaye Rowe and Tony Ellis for their selection in the BCGBR representative sides. The Region Sides championship is to be held on Saturday 13 / Sunday 14 January 2024 in Ballarat. I believe it is at Webbcona.

Weekend pennant finished up for the calendar year with some familiar results. Only one of the four teams recording a win.

The Premiers won two rinks against South but, once again, in a tale that is common across all grades, had one rink that had a bad day. They went down by 24 shots. The Three’s were almost the same, going down by 21 shots with one rink battling all day. The Sixers lost by 13 shots with the game having a fruit salad of rink results; one win, one tie and one loss. Sounds like some tournament days I have been in.

The winners on Saturday were the Ones, soundly defeating White Hills by 31 shots with three rinks up. Could it be a repeat of last year; on the bottom at Christmas and then winning the pennant. Watch this space.

The ladder positions for our teams are: Premiers 6th, Ones 8th, Three’s 8th and Sixers 5th. Obviously a bit of improvement is required.

Mid-week pennant will resume on Monday 15 January and the weekend competition will resume on Saturday 20 January. The Premier league are playing on Sunday 21 January with all matches being played at South Bendigo.

We would like to farewell Kym Schumacher who is returning interstate after a couple of years in Victoria. He played in the top team throughout his time with us and, as manager of the National Motel, arranged some sponsorship for the club which included some terrific raffle prizes. Thank’s Kym and good luck for the future.

Wednesday Jackpot pairs will be having a break after today and will resume on Wednesday 10 January 2024.

We would like to wish everybody a very good Christmas and a happy new year.

Go the Borough!
